From the Families We Serve
These are words shared by family members of current and former residents and day program participants.
Araya Chantara
Daughter of Teak Residence resident • Chiang Mai
Moving my mother to gentarens was not an easy decision, but it was the right one. She settled within the first week — the staff knew her name on day one, remembered she dislikes mushrooms, and encouraged her to join the garden walks at her own pace. I receive written updates every month and the coordinator answers my calls directly. Knowing she is genuinely cared for has changed my day-to-day life.

Pakpoom Theerawong
Son of Full Nursing Residence resident • Bangkok
My father has a complex cardiac condition and early-stage dementia. I was uncertain whether any residential facility outside Bangkok could manage his needs properly. gentarens's nursing team has handled everything thoughtfully — coordinating with his cardiologist, managing his medication schedule carefully, and adapting his daily activities to match his energy on any given day. The family coordinator sends me written reports monthly and is available when I have questions.

Nattaya Wichitphan
Daughter of Day Program participant • San Sai, Chiang Mai
My grandmother lives with us but was becoming quite isolated during the day while we were at work. The Veranda Day Program has been a gentle change. She comes home in good spirits — she has made friends with two other ladies who attend, and she now talks about the herb-making sessions. The transportation arrangement has worked well. I would appreciate slightly longer hours on certain days, but overall the program suits her well.

Supaporn Kaewkla
Family member of Teak Residence resident • Lamphun
What matters most to me is that my uncle feels at home — not that he is staying somewhere well-managed. The food at gentarens is genuinely Northern Thai. He eats well, which he didn't when he was on his own. The staff greet him by name and seem to actually enjoy his company. After six months here, he is more settled than he has been in years.

James Mcallister
Son of Full Nursing Residence resident • Melbourne, Australia
My mother retired in Chiang Mai many years ago. When her health declined, we needed a nursing-level facility that could communicate clearly with our family overseas. The gentarens team has been exceptional. English-language written updates arrive each month without fail. When I visited last November, I was struck by how familiar and calm the environment felt — nothing clinical about it.

Wipaporn Pongsak
Granddaughter of Teak Residence resident • Chiang Mai
My grandfather moved into the Teak Residence after a fall that made it difficult for him to live alone. The transition was handled gradually and kindly — the gentarens team helped him arrange his room with his own familiar objects, and the first week they made sure he had company during mealtimes. He tells me he likes the tai chi sessions in the morning. Seeing him comfortable has meant a great deal to our family.

Care Stories
A closer look at how gentarens's programs have supported individuals through different stages and situations.
Day Program — Transition
The Situation
A 74-year-old woman living with her daughter was becoming socially withdrawn following the loss of her husband. Her family wanted structured company and gentle activity during the day while they were at work.
The Approach
She joined the Veranda Day Program three times a week. Staff introduced her gradually to group activities, starting with watercolour sessions where she was quiet and observant before becoming a regular contributor.
After Four Months
Her family reported a noticeable improvement in her mood and appetite at home. She now attends five days a week by her own choice, and has formed a close friendship with another regular participant.
Teak Residence — Long-term Care
The Situation
An 81-year-old retired teacher with early Parkinson's disease and increasing difficulty managing daily tasks independently. His family in Bangkok was worried about his safety living alone in Chiang Mai.
The Approach
He joined the Teak Residence. His care coordinator worked with his neurologist to align daily activity around his energy patterns. Tai chi sessions were adapted to his mobility. His room was arranged to reduce fall risks.
After One Year
His family visits quarterly and describes him as more settled and vocal than he has been in several years. His mobility has remained stable. He is a regular at the community tea gathering every Friday afternoon.
Full Nursing — Complex Needs
The Situation
A 78-year-old woman with moderate vascular dementia, type 2 diabetes, and post-stroke mobility impairment. She had been discharged from hospital but required more support than her family could safely provide at home.
The Approach
She was admitted to the Full Nursing Residence. A nutrition professional developed a diabetic-appropriate meal plan, and a gentle physiotherapy-inspired program was introduced to maintain her upper body movement.
After Six Months
Her blood sugar levels have stabilised. Cognitive engagement activities have helped her maintain basic communication. Her daughter, who was initially anxious about the move, now visits regularly and describes the environment as peaceful and attentive.
