Our Story
Care that begins
with listening
gentarens was shaped by a simple belief: that growing older should feel like a continuation, not a concession. We built this home to honour that belief.
Back to HomeHow gentarens came to be
gentarens opened its doors in 2017 after a long period of careful thought, design, and conversations with families across Chiang Mai. The founding team had spent years working in geriatric care and community health across Northern Thailand, and they kept encountering the same gap: families who wanted attentive, dignified support for an elderly relative, but couldn't find a place that felt genuinely like home.
The answer was a small residential setting — not a clinical facility, not a large institution — where routines could be shaped around the person rather than the schedule, and where the air smelled of lemongrass and garden soil, not disinfectant.
Today, gentarens serves a small community of residents and day program participants with a consistent team who take the time to learn names, stories, preferences, and the small daily rituals that make a senior feel seen. That hasn't changed, and it won't.
Our Mission & Values
The way we care for residents shapes who we are as a team, a home, and a neighbour in the San Sai community.
Dignity first
Every resident retains the right to their own preferences, pace, and voice. Our staff are trained to support — not to override.
Transparent communication
Families receive regular written updates and are included in all significant care decisions. We prefer honest conversation over reassuring vagueness.
Rooted in Northern Thai culture
Meals, activities, and the pace of daily life draw on the warmth and rhythm of the Chiang Mai region — familiar for many residents and enriching for all.
Small community, consistent care
We deliberately keep resident numbers low so that every care team member knows every resident well — not just on paper, but in practice.
Adaptive care planning
Care plans are reviewed and adjusted as needs evolve. We work closely with families to ensure the support always fits the current reality — not a fixed template.
Wellbeing over routine
Our enrichment programs exist to nurture real engagement and joy — not to fill a timetable. If a resident would rather sit quietly in the garden than join an activity, that is always respected.
The People Behind gentarens
Our leadership team brings together expertise in nursing, geriatric care, nutrition, and family support coordination.

Our Standards & Protocols
The practices that guide care delivery at gentarens, designed to uphold safety, privacy, and personal wellbeing at every level.
Thai Ministry of Public Health Compliance
All operations follow the standards set by Thailand's Ministry of Public Health for residential elderly care facilities.
Individual Care Plans
Every resident has a documented, regularly reviewed care plan developed in consultation with the family and, where possible, the resident themselves.
Personal Data Protection
Resident health and personal information is handled in accordance with Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA 2019).
Nutritional Food Standards
Meals are planned with input from a nutrition professional, using locally sourced ingredients, and adapted to individual dietary needs, preferences, and health conditions.
Safety Infrastructure
The facility maintains fire safety compliance, emergency call systems in all rooms, slip-prevention fittings, and regular safety walk-throughs by management.
Ongoing Staff Training
All care staff attend regular training sessions covering dementia awareness, safe mobility support, communication skills, and emotional wellbeing practices.
Hospital Coordination
We maintain working relationships with local hospitals and specialist clinics in Chiang Mai to ensure smooth, responsive coordination when specialist referrals are required.
Family Feedback Process
Families are invited to share feedback at any time and are included in formal quarterly reviews. Any concern is addressed promptly and in writing.
Residential elderly care in Chiang Mai
Finding the right home for an older family member is one of the most personal decisions a family will make. In the San Sai district of Chiang Mai, gentarens has developed a reputation for attentive, personalised care delivered in a setting that feels genuine rather than institutional.
Our three programs — the Veranda Day Program, the Teak Residence, and the Full Nursing Residence — cover a range of support needs, from structured daytime social care through to 24-hour nursing and specialist rehabilitation. Each is staffed by a consistent team who build real familiarity with the people in their care.
Northern Thailand's culture of hospitality and communal warmth is woven into the daily experience at gentarens. Locally sourced meals, seasonal garden activities, and a connection to the rhythms of Chiang Mai life provide a sense of continuity and belonging that many families tell us makes an immediate difference.
Families seeking residential elderly care near Chiang Mai city, or a day program for a senior who remains at home, are welcome to visit or speak with our team at their convenience. We are here to help you understand the options — without pressure and without urgency.
Visit gentarens in person
We welcome families to come and see the home before making any decisions. A quiet walk through the garden and a cup of tea with our team often answers more questions than any brochure could.
